The Dot

Year 6 have spent time discussing the book "The Dot" by Peter Reynolds. You can read the story by clicking on the video.

It is a story of a young girl who lacks confidence and, with the help of a teacher, discovers that she does have a talent.

The best part of the story is when Vashti shares her new found confidence with a small boy.

Year 6 created their own 'dot' artwork which will be uploaded here soon.

Please take to time to visit our blog again and read the comments written by our students over the next week .

  1. On the front cover of the book the big dot looks like a human eye because the writing is the pupil.Inside there are different colour representing the emotions that Vashti express. 44

  3. This book shows that you can get more depth in a picture book than a novel and there are always two story in one book because there is a story in the text and one in the pictures.

  5. I find that the dot relates to a lot of things, one being "this little lite of mine" meaning that the dot is her light.

  6. I think the Dot is telling us to never stop believing in our self, because sometime in our life, we will find our talent and teach others to find theirs to share with people they know.

  10. I would like to congratulate year 6 on the way in which they are getting better and better at interpreting the text of books. They look at the entire text - the words, the images and the colours of the images. They are also making more and more connections with texts. Great work Year 6. I am so proud of you. Mrs S

  12. I second Mrs S' comment because they were able to reflect and express their thoughts with reasons in relation to the messages within the book.

I also agree with Student 13's comment about how Vashti spread her little light and made a continuous ripple to continue spreading her light. Miss M =)
