Leaders go to Conference

On Wednesday the 10th of March, 8 student leaders from St Josephs went to the Impact Leadership Conference at Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre.

When we got there we had to mark our names off then go and get a seat. It was really exciting to see what other schools were there and all the different uniforms.

When it was time to start, everybody was quiet. We all got a work booklet and an Impact Leadership pen.

In the first session we learnt what a leader is, how you can be a leader and that anyone can be a leader. We then had something to eat.

The second session was probably the best out of all of them because we got to get up out of our seats and meet different people from other schools. We also got to choose one person from our school to get up and play a game about hair. The rest of the group had to work together and help the nominated person to get the answer right. It was really fun! After that we had our lunch.

In the last session we watched a video about Hamish and Andy going back to school that showed us some good things to do to be a leader. We also saw in the video what not to do, like walk past a piece of rubbish instead of picking it up!

When the video had finished we filled out a sheet saying what we liked and disliked about the conference. All the student leaders got a badge at the end of the day.

It was a really enjoyable day and we all think next time the whole class should go.

Cricket Whites

This week, 14 students in Year 6 entered a cricket competition. Even though we did not win, they had lots of fun. If the green knees on the trousers are any indication, lots of runs were saved. Well done boys. Many thanks to their coaches Miss C and Mr C.

Football Maths!

This week, with the start of the football season, students in Year 6 are combining the fun of trying to tip the winners each week with Mathematics.

This week we looked at a tally of the teams the students thought were going to win. The students then graphed the results. Below are some of the graphs the student did.

Poetry in March

Bear
The bear's hair
could feel the air
at the lair.

Lee
Lee had a tree
Gee
It tastes like tea.

The cat
The cat was on the mat
while eating a rat.

Jail
There was a jail
This guy had a tail
He looked a bit pale
He had a cat
That would sit on his hat
It slept with his sheep
In his locker.

Being
I was being rude
Not sharing my food
Because I was in a bad mood.

Spoon
Boon ate the coon
At noon on the moon
In June with a spoon.

Pear
Around the table I hear a sound
Of pitter patter on the ground.
I looked but there was nothing there
Only just a rotten old pear.

Mary MacKillop

Mary MacKillop will be Australia's first Saint on October 17th 2010.

Last week, for our Literacy activities, children read various online newspaper articles about Mary MacKillop. Their information has been put into bookmarks and will be distributed to the whole school.

Welcome to our school
